Suffolk County Championships 10 - Results

The second Suffolk County Championship was held on Sunday 4th July. This year we introduced a Junior championship as well as the senior. The day was very successful  with 33 competitors from across the Eastern Region competing.

The overall winner of the senior competition was Jack Watson, followed by Simon Blackwell in 2nd place. The Stowmarket results were: Simon Agnew - 3rd (Simon also took the Suffolk Championship shield as the highest ranked fencer from a Suffolk based, BFA registered club), Tim Schofield - 6th, Kieran Hart - 7th, Rob Sayer - 8th, Elaine Sayer - 9th, Nathan Gull - 13th, Stuart Clough - 14th, Alex Morley - 17th, Chris Brown - 19th, Jim Mackay - 20th, Jasmine Smith - 22nd, Josh Saunders - 23rd, Robert Ormond - 26th and Monica Bosworth - 27th.

The overall winner of the junior competition was Megan Boreham, followed by Ranulf Gull in 2nd place. Ranulf was the only junior entrant from Stowmarket and had an epic marathon of a match in the Semi-Final.

Well done to all who entered and especially to those who were competing for the first time. For more details and full results go to the Suffolk County Championship website here.

Exam success

Well done to Elaine, who has just passed her Level 3 Foil exams at the British Academy of Fencing's Easter course. These courses last a week and involve a minimum of 12 hours a day, every day, then you have to find the energy to take exams as both a coach and as a pupil for the others. It requires a lot of hard work, determination and comittment. Well done Elaine.

Cambridge Winter Tournament 2010

Three of our fencers went to the Cambridge Winter Tournament this year and did very well despite not having been fencing for that long. Final results were: Sean 37th, Rob 44th and Phil 48th. All had some very good fights and some tough opposition through two rounds of poules and the direct elimination. Well done on a good day's fencing.
